This page was renamed to reflect a revised remit to allow a wider coverage of village events.
On the 20th October 2009, we started published a weekly "Filby News" bulletin on this page. Past bulletins are available by going to the Village Voice Echoes page.
There may be some duplication with activities regarding Filby in Bloom, it is always worth checking the Filby in Bloom pages for other coverage, but this page will be the main source of activities week to week.
Village Voice will reward regular visits as it is possible to include comments, reports and observations sent to the Webmaster using the email address shown below. This is also an opportunity for us to see and record your photographs covering Filby, its people, events and activities, both past and present, contributions are always welcome. It is intended that suitable material will, in time, become part of the Filby Collection to be housed in the proposed Community Centre.
From January 2010 we have published, month by month, the Victorian equivalent of Village Voice starting with January 1890. To see what our forebears considered worthy of record one hundred and twenty years ago. Why not go to the Voices from the Past page?
To publicise your Filby related event please email the webmaster@filbyvillage.org.uk. You can also use this email address to make contact with the event organizers or if you require further information on items below your message will be passed on.

23rd January 2012
President Jan Howard welcomed 2 guests and 29 members including Elaine Ellis and Diane Smith who had joined at our first meeting of the New Year. Diane is the daughter of our longest serving member, Monica Betts, and it is the first time in Filby WIs history that we have a daughter and mother as members at the same time. A change from previous years is the fact that we are having our Speaker at the start of the meetings. Mrs Wendy Bircham spoke about, and showed DVDs, of the work of The Morning Star Charity which was set up by her parents a few years ago for the street children of Nepal. Her talk was very interesting and we were pleased to be able to give her a donation from money given by members instead of exchanging Christmas cards between ourselves.
Vote of thanks was given by Lyn Ridpath.
After refreshments the Minutes of the previous meeting were read, approved and signed. Invitations from Sea Palling and Rollesby WI were accepted. Resolution voting forms were collected in and the result will be forwarded to Federation Office. Unwanted scarves are being collected for the 'Women reaching Water' project. These will be sold at a meeting at the UEA in March for this project.
Members were asked for their ideas for our fund raising during the year.
Daphne Newton was congratulated on winning the Federation Scrabble Singles Competition. Jan Howard has written a poem for this year's Rose Bowl Competition.
Lottery Bonus Ball Competition was a rollover.
Birthday posy was given to Rita Hill and a Birthday card sent to Angela Pacey.
50p draw winner was Daphne Newton.
8th January 2012
First meeting of the year is 19th January at 2.00pm in Filby Club Room. The Speaker is Wendy Bircham 'Morning Star' Charity. The Street children in Nepal.
Subscription £31.50 for the year is due as is £3 deposit for lunch at Ambitions on 1st March. Have you any scarves (in good condition) that you no longer want or fabric jewellery? These are needed by Fed.Office for a sale as part of the 'Women Reaching Water Global Action' Event.
Please bring your completed Resolution Form from latest addition of WI Life. Thank you.
19th December 2011
President Jan Howard welcomed members, guests and new member Angela Beeston to the Christmas Meeting on 15th December.
Minutes of the previous meeting were taken as read. A thank you letter had been received from Gill Pope for our donation to Denman College. A donation from members had been sent to the Marie Curie Nurses in memory of our dear friend Barbara Secker.
Lottery Bonus Ball Competition was a rollover.
Birthday posies were given to Lois Duncombe, Valerie Brock, Ella Sleen and Jackie Green.
Our next outing is to the Ambitions Restaurant for lunch on 1st March. Deposit of £3 required at the next meeting.
A lovely bring and share finger buffet was enjoyed.
The raffle was drawn and Ella, May and Lyn provided the afternoon entertainment which was good fun.
Vote of thanks was given by Mary Gay.
Members sang 'We wish you a Merry Christmas' and Jan ended a very enjoyable afternoon by reading 'The Spirit of Santa Claus' as follows; He's seen in the smiles the whole world is sharing. He's found where there's friendship, loving and caring, He's felt in warm handshakes when people are meeting. He's heard in the cheer of a Christmastime greeting. His spirits behind all the gifts we receive. He's everywhere, always to those who believe.
6th December 2011
15th December in the Club Room at 2.00pm we are having a Bring and Share Finger Buffet Party for members. Drinks and glasses will be provided, but please bring your own cutlery. Instead of exchanging Christmas Cards between ourselves a box will be available for donations to the 'Morning Star' Charity for the street children in Nepal if you so wish. Our speaker in January will be telling us all about this Charity. Please let Valerie know if you are not able to come to the Party. The knitted Teddies brought to last month's meeting were passed onto a Charity to make sure they would be loved by some little children at Christmas.

The meeting also discussed a planning application, to be considered by the Parish Council on the following Tuesday, for the provision of a new car parking area the access for which would involve driving through the church yard, demolishing the right hand wall between the old and new burial areas, creating a right turn, removing trees and hedges and creating a 3.2m roadway along the footpath to the new site.
