This page was renamed to reflect a revised remit to allow, hopefully, a wider coverage of village events.
From 20th October 2009, we are publishing a weekly "Filby News" bulletin on this page. Past bulletins are available on the Village Voice Echoes page.
There may be some duplication with activities regarding Filby in Bloom, it is always worth checking the Filby in Bloom pages for other coverage, but this page will be the main source of activities week to week.
Village Voice will reward regular visits as it is possible to include comments, reports and observations sent to the Webmaster using the email address shown below. An opportunity for us to see and record your photographs covering Filby, its people, events and activities, both past and present, is also welcome. It is intended that suitable material will, in time, become part of the Filby Collection to be housed in the proposed Community Centre.
From January 2010 we are publishing, month by month, the Victorian equivalent of Village Voice starting with January 1890. To see what our forebears considered worthy of record one hundred and twenty years ago. Why not go to the Voices from the Past page?
To publicise your Filby related event please email the webmaster@filbyvillage.org.uk. You can also use this email address to make contact with the event organizers or if you require further information on items below and your message will be passed on.

Christmas Card
Mystery Solved
You may, or may not, recall in the Village Voice of 21st December 2009 the following item:
Thank You
To the person who left the lovely Christmas card to the people of Filby on the village sign.
It is rewarding that the work that is done each week to make the village "A lovely place to be" is appreciated.
We thought you might like to see pictures of the card. Thank you again to the anonymous donor.

Filby in Bloom Meeting
On Wednesday 18th November a small number of residents gathered together to consider the disappointing outcome of our 2009 campaign and to plan for 2010. A link to pages for more information and copies of the Judges reports and the feedback from Anglia in Bloom and Britain in Bloom will be posted shortly.
35th Anniversary Concert
14th November 2009
Alright! I accept this concert was held in Norwich but Stone Angel is based in Filby and three members live in the village. They rehearse in the Village Club Room and they have given concerts in the church as the picture below shows.
If you missed the concert, and you probably did, you missed a treat with music from their first 'gig' in Great Yarmouth right up to date.
If you were there and would like to submit a review, or to add your thoughts, please email the Webmaster from the link at the bottom of the page.
You can find more information on Stone Angel if you consult the angel.
Coffee Morning - Update
14th November 2009
We held a coffee morning at Filby Church from 10.00 to 12.00 on Saturday 14th November 2009 in aid of the 'Carla Saunders Garden Appeal - Palliative Care East'.
Despite the dreadful weather, with storm force winds, driving rain and even some thunder and lightening, a number of hardy souls turned out to support the event and £300 was raised in support of the appeal.
Special mention should be made of Tremaine Saunders who ran from his home in Bradwell to Filby church, through the inclement weather, to be greeted by his children, Kyle and Star, and his mother in law, Gladys, and helpers and supporters of the appeal.
Many thanks to everyone involved.

Money Changes Hands in Filby
9th October 2009
Money, taken at Filby’s recent August Bank Holiday Weekend activities, changed hands at the village’s Club Room, on the evening of Friday 9th October.
Members of Filby’s Playing Field Committee met to receive a cheque for £630 from representatives of Norfolk Broads Lions' Club. This donation to the village’s New Community Centre Fund was made from the proceeds of the Lions’ food and bar sales at events over that weekend.

Six local bands played throughout the afternoon and evening, a first for the village. The event was organized by residents Carl & Theresa Proctor and put on in joint support of the East Anglian Air Ambulance and the Community Centre Fund.
A cheque for £560 was presented to David Webb representing East Anglian Air Ambulance by the Playing Field Committee.
